The project
Barcelona’s cult football brand MEYBA returned with the third and final instalment of its Beatles trilogy, this time inspired by Yellow Submarine. DesignFuel partnered with the team to bring the film’s iconic illustration world into the campaign, helping translate a hand-drawn, psychedelic classic into modern football culture.
The challenge
The project needed to feel unmistakably Yellow Submarine — joyful, surreal and graphic — while still sitting naturally within a contemporary fashion/football photoshoot. The artwork had to enhance the imagery rather than overpower it, and remain faithful to the established visual language from the Beatles back catalogue.
Our approach
Working closely with MEYBA and the licensed Beatles artwork, we developed a set of illustration overlays and treatments to sit across campaign photography. The goal was to make the artwork feel integrated — not “stuck on” — by matching lighting, perspective and composition, and building consistency across the full set of images.
We leaned into the visual cues that make the film iconic: bold colour, playful character silhouettes and graphic shapes that still feel contemporary decades on.
The result
A vibrant campaign that blends football, art and culture — capturing the nostalgia of Yellow Submarine while keeping the execution clean, modern and wearable. It was one of those projects the studio genuinely loved: working with such an iconic visual archive and seeing it come alive in a fresh context.
